Well, it’s New Years’s Eve, and the new is full of predictions for the year ahead. And if it’s not predictions then it’s all the things people are going to do in 2008. Probably the same things they resolved to do in 2007.
A quick Google search brings up just over 1.4m results for predictions for virtual worlds, with the future of Australia and virtual worlds topping the bill. On a quick glance through, I think you could change the country name and the predictions will still read about right.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, a search on predictions for Second Life in 2008 tops that though, with 1.6m results. I love the piece from the Telegraph that is the first result! Of course, one rather hopes it’s tounge in cheek, rather than someone with an accurate crystal ball at the Telegraph. Can’t be that accurate, otherwise they would know that there is not much going on at American Apparel these days. Not in the virtual world anyway, and nothing worth besieging for!
In terms of resolutions, a comment on an earlier post got me thinking. Helzepops has an interesting point, it’s difficult to see at the moment what will cause the tipping point for wider adoption of virtual worlds in 2008. This often turns into a debate about making the technology easier, but for me it’s as much, if not more so, about making the experience richer and deeper.
So that’s my resolution for No 7 is to try and do that. We made a small start in 2007 and learnt a lot in a very short space of time. We haven’t got it right yet, and it’s a bit like baby steps, but it’s a very interesting journey!
Happy New Year to all!
